Common Signs of Hair Loss

Hair loss can develop gradually, making it difficult to notice at first. Some of the most common signs include:

  • Increased hair shedding when brushing, washing, or styling your hair.
  • Thinning hair, particularly around the crown or parting, which may appear wider over time.
  • Greater visibility of the scalp through the hair.
  • A ponytail that feels thinner or less full than it used to.
  • Hair that breaks easily, leaving it looking shorter, weaker, or uneven.

What Causes Hair Loss in Women?

Female hair loss can result from a wide range of factors, and in many cases, more than one cause may be involved. Common causes include:

  • Genetics and a family history of hair thinning.
  • Hormonal changes associated with pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, or certain medical conditions.
  • Physical or emotional stress.
  • Nutritional deficiencies or rapid weight loss.
  • Medical conditions such as thyroid disorders, anaemia, or vitamin deficiencies.
  • Certain medications, including some used to treat high blood pressure, gout, and other health conditions.
  • Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
  • Frequent chemical treatments, excessive heat styling, or other practices that can damage the hair and scalp.

A professional assessment can help determine the underlying cause and the most appropriate treatment plan.
